Walt Borla devoted a lifetime to athletics in Eastern Utah.
He was first baseman on the Helper American Legion
State Championship baseball team of 1943 and
Carbon High School's State runner-up team of 1944.
At the College of Eastern Utah, he joined the football and baseball teams
before answering the call to duty during World War II.
Borla was among the group of returning veterans who
formed the competitive college teams following the war.
After graduating, he began a forty-five year career with the
U.S. Postal Service and became a part-time
sports writer for local and state newspapers.
Borla is a past president and long-time director of the Western Boys
Baseball Association (WBBA). He served as the
tournament director for the,
"(WBBA) Little League World Series", held in Helper
in 1989. He directed the Helper Kiwanis
Invitational basketball tournaments for thirty-seven
consecutive years and administered semi-professional and
amateur baseball in Carbon County.
Borla's greatest satisfaction is from providing opportunities for
youngsters to participate in athletics and writing of
their accomplishments.
