2011 - 2012 Application Process for Federal Financial Aid at USU/CEU

How to Apply

• Apply for admission (or readmission) to Utah State University/College of Eastern Utah at www.CEU.edu/admissions. To be eligible for financial aid, you must be admitted and matriculated into a certificate or degree-seeking program.
• Financial Aid rules change often. Check Financial Aid and Scholarship website www.CEU.edu/financialaid. Important program changes and/or deadlines will be announced here. Also check your USU/CEU e-mail often for important financial aid notices.
• Fill out and submit your Data Form and Loan Counseling online through your USU/CEU account at www.CEU.edu.
• Apply for a PIN (your electronic signature for the FAFSA) at www.pin.ed.gov. *lf dependent, at least one parent must obtain a PIN. If you have forgotten your pin you may also "Request a Duplicate PIN" at www.pin.ed.gov.
• Complete and sign the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) at www.fafsa.ed.gov. You will need your 2010 Federal Tax Return information. CEU's school code is 004027.
• After you have completed the FAFSA you will be notified through your USU/CEU account (Financial Aid Menu, My Financial Aid Status, Requirements, Award Year 2011 - 2012) to turn in other required application materials for financial aid. Your Financial Aid will not be processed until we have received all necessary documents.
• Check your Financial Aid status OFTEN through your USU/CEU account. (Financial Aid Menu, My Financial Aid Status, Requirements, Award Year 2011 - 2012) Do not assume everything is taken care of - please ask if you have questions.
• Accept your 2011 - 2012 awards through your USU/CEU account. (Financial Aid Menu, My Awards, Award, Award Year 2011 - 2012) Only grants are automatically accepted. All other financial aid is offered and must be accepted by you.
• Many students need to sign a Master Promissory Note (MPN) to receive their federal loan. Check your financial aid status at least two days after you accept your loan to see if you need to complete your MPN. Contact the Financial Aid Office if you have questions. Your loan will not be processed until you have completed your MPN, if necessary.
• Check Financial Aid and Scholarship website often www.CEU.edu/financialaid. Important program changes and/or deadlines will be announced here. Also check your USU/CEU e-mail often for important financial aid notices.
• Read the Financial Aid Handbook www.CEU.edu/financialaid for detailed information regarding financial aid rules and programs.

Responsibilities

• You are responsible to ensure your tuition charges are paid by the appropriate deadline, regardless of your financial aid! If your tuition is not paid in full by the deadline you will receive a late fee and your classes may be dropped. You will be responsible for the late fee as well as any fees associated with reinstating your classes. To view deadlines for the applicable term go to www.CEU.edu/htm/file41808/academic-calendar. (Click on the semester timetable.)
• You are responsible for checking your Financial Aid status. Check your status often to avoid missing other requirements. Even after you receive your award letter your Financial Aid may not disburse to your student account. (Enrollment changes, college holds, etc.)

Helpful Tips

• Apply early! As soon after January 1st as you get your 2010 taxes completed but before May 1st.
• Warning: If you apply late, in order to process your financial aid, we must have correct and complete information by the last day of your enrollment or June 15, 2011 whichever is sooner. Files will not be processed beyond this date.
• Clearly mark all pages of all forms or documents you submit to the Financial Aid Office with your name and USU/CEU ID. All paper forms or documents must be signed.
• The financial aid process is not complete until you have received your money and satisfactorily completed your coursework. Feel free to ask us questions at any time so you may successfully receive and retain your financial aid.
