Newspaper Facilities

College of Eastern Utah’s Eagle newspaper has been published in one form or another since the beginning of the college in 1937. Always being the “voice of the students, ” the student newspaper told the history of CEU from its sports teams, activities and academics. It’s gone from a room filled with manual typewriters to a room filled with computers, servers, routers and printers.

It is published twice a month on Thursdays, fall and spring semesters, and tells the history of CEU in words and photos. The print version is accompanied by the web version that can be found at eagle.ceu.edu. In the fall of 2008, The Eagle will debut an Eagle blog as another way to get voices heard about the “life and times of the CEU community.”

Located in the old SAC building in the middle of campus (the only remaining original building constructed in 1937), the walls of The Eagle offices are lined with hundreds of awards its staff has won from almost every major college newspaper competition in the United States. Alumni from its staffs have gone onto work at major daily and weekly newspapers throughout the U.S. while some found teaching the art of writing and reporting and laying out in junior and senior high schools.

Radio Facilities

The College radio station, 107.9 The Edge has been in existence since the fall of 2002.  Offering students practical on-air experience.  Operating around the clock, the station provides music, news and information concerning college events.

Recently the FCC granted KCEU a full power license.  Donations are currently being sought to bring the station on at 6,000 Watts of power.  The station will then change to its new frequency at 89.9 FM.

The station also hosts a regular concert series, the Friday Night Schmoozers.  New and rising artists are showcased in this monthly series. Students are actively involved in the planning, promotion, and production of this series.

Television Facilities

The department is pleased to have a partnership with Etv, a local cable channel.  By joining forces with them we have a fully equipped, off campus, television studio.  The studio offers a lab where students can practice practical skills associated with television studio production.  Programming produced in the lab is shown on Etv.

The department likewise has equipment for video field productions.  Cameras, edit suites, lights and audio equipment for shooting commercials, documentaries, and dramatic materials.  Students are given access to these resource in their first year of study.
