Haraszti Named UN Special Rapporteur on Human Rights in Belarus

Miklos Haraszti, visiting professor in the Department of Public Policy, was appointed the Special Rapporteur on the situation of human rights in Belarus by the U.N. Human Rights Council. In his new role, effective Nov. 1, Haraszti will recommend improvements; help implement the recommendations of the report of the High Commissioner; assist the government of Belarus in fulfilling its human rights obligations; offer support and advice to civil society; seek, receive, examine and act on information from all relevant stakeholders in Belarus; and report annually to the Human Rights Council and to the General Assembly.
