The National Humanities Center, North Carolina, and Wissenschaftskolleg zu Berlin are organizing "SIAS Summer Institutes," an interdisciplinary research program for young scholars spanning two years. The program is open to post-docs who obtained their PhD in the last five years and to PhD candidates who are studying or teaching at a European or American institution of higher education. Interested parties may apply to one or both of two summer institutes, each accommodating 20 participants (10 each from Europe and the U.S.) —and involving two consecutive summer workshops (one each held in Europe and the U.S.). The application deadline is Jan. 15, 2013, for the institute themed “Cultural Encounters: Global Perspectives and Local Exchanges, 1750-1940,” and Feb. 22, 2013, for the other, themed “Scenes from the History of the Image: Reading Two Millennia of Conflict.” For more information, see http://www.wiko-berlin.de/index.php?id=93.
