Working with people within CEU and around the world, Kristina Georgieva (Department of Economics, Economic Policy in Global Markets, two-year MA), took the lead in convening the Budapest Open 2013 Debate Tournament held the weekend of March 1-3. This was the second year in a row that the CEU Debate Society hosted the international tournament, both times in conjunction with Corvinus and ELTE universities.
The event brought 150 students and coaches from 35 countries to Budapest. Georgieva says one thing she likes about debating is that “You often have to defend a point of view you don’t agree with, and you see there is something behind the argument. It’s a way to recharge your batteries.” See a short video about the tournament at http://www.ceu.hu/video/2013-03-06/why-debate.
