CEU Alumnus Appointed Rector of Ilia State University

CEU alumnus Giga Zedania, a 2000 graduate of the Department of Medieval Studies, was elected rector of Ilia State University in Tbilisi, Georgia on Feb. 20. On his election, Zedania said it was his responsibility to lead academic process in the institution often referred as “Iliauni”. The academic council supported his vision of university development and his goals. Recalling the medieval definition of universities, Zedania highlighted the importance of the union of faculty and students in his inaugural address. The goals the new rector set for the university are the production of education (research), the distribution of education (teaching), and the utilization of education.
