As part of CEU's weeklong celebration of Earth Day 2015, students and administrators created a community garden at the CEU Residence Center. At the April 23 event, members of the CEU community planted herbs, edible plants and flowers in the green space behind the dorm, located in Budapest's 10th district. Coriander, chive, rosemary, basil, strawberry, corn salad, rocket, thyme, lemon balm, chili peppers, seeds of sunflower, dill, roses, sunflowers, and hibiscus were available for students to plant. The Residence Center provided the community gardeners with gloves and garden trowels, as well with refreshments and snacks.
"For most of the participants, this was the first time they had gardened. Planting a first tree or plant gave them a lot of pride. Hopefully, this has started a tradition for years to come," said CEU student Ivana Kesten, who participated in the planting. "Students and other community members are welcome to enjoy the garden and join in maintaining it and harvesting."
This event marked the first time edible plants were planted at the dorm. The last time a similar activity took place was three years ago, when students planted flowers in front of the dorm.
