Freedom from Fear in a Diverse Society: Hungary - Hungarian news site reports: CEU’s Department of Legal Studies and CEU’s Human RightS Initiative (HRSI) organized the “Freedom from Fear in a Diverse Society: Hungary” conference on November 19, a satellite event of the Council of Europe's World Forum for Democracy held in Strasbourg on November 18-20. The Forum explored the democratic responses to a diverse range of threats, from violent extremism to economic, technological, environmental and geopolitical risks. The conference took Hungary as a case-study and in addition questioned the legitimacy of the broadly understood integration claims, examined how the anti-immigration campaign of the government influenced the level of xenophobia in the country, how hostile speech translates in the everyday life of people and what challenges civil society organizations face when helping refugees.
