Faculty distinctions in 2014-15:

  • “Written here, Published There: How Underground Literature Crossed the Iron Curtain” by Friderike Kind-Kovacs, assistant professor at Regensburg University, has won the University of Southern California Book Prize in Literary and Cultural Studies.
  • Margarita Balmaceda's “Living the High Life in Minsk: Russian Energy Rents, Domestic Populism and Belarus’ Impending Crisis” was named the Best Foreign Monograph on Belarus at the 5th International Congress of Belarusian Studies, held on October 2-4, in Kaunas, Lithuania.
  • Leonid Smilovitsky’s “Jewish life in Belarus: The Final Decade of the Stalin Regime, 1944–1953” has been awarded Outstanding Academic Title for 2015 by Choice magazine.
