CEU Students Present Paper at Southeast Asian Studies Symposium

Gian Carlo Miranda and Janeca Naboya, master’s students in the Department of Legal Studies at CEU, presented their paper “Tug-of-War: Politicizing Humanitarian Aid in Times of Natural Disasters” at the Southeast Asian Studies Symposium at the Mathematical Institute, Oxford, on April 14-16.  The symposium was part of the Project Southeast Asia, initiated by the University of Oxford, which aims to act as a focal point for academic and research activity, bringing together distinguished scholars in the field of Southeast Asian studies.

In their paper, Miranda and Naboya examined the interplay and the power struggle in the Philippines between the political entities who are tasked with making the laws and the state organs who are in charge of ensuring that these laws are faithfully carried out.
