As President of the International Society for the History, Philosophy and Social Studies of Biology (ISHPSSB), I express the unanimous decision of its Council to support the Central European University (CEU), and to express its concerns about pending legislation that would endanger academic freedom.
The reputation of CEU in teaching and research in Social Studies and Humanities is well established. It is particularly true in History and Philosophy of Science, which are the domains of predilection of our Society.
CEU is a full member of the International academic community, and its presence in Hungary has added to the already high reputation of Hungarian academic life. Its disappearance would be a loss for all.
