CEU’s Open Learning Initiative-University Preparatory Program, OLIve-UP, is a university preparatory program for refugees funded by Erasmus+ and the Higher Education Support Program of the Open Society Foundations. Since January 2017, the program offers intensive training in different academic subjects and in academic English to prepare students to continue their studies in BA and MA programs in Europe.
OLIve UP is looking to recruit tutors to teach courses in Political Science/International Relations, Public Policy, Sociology & Social Anthropology and Business Studies for the Academic Year 2017-2018. Tutoring involves two 100-minute sessions a week, plus office hours for each student in the group (30 mins per week per student of office hours), over the course of all three academic terms (i.e. September 2017 to June 2018). Tutors are expected to construct a syllabus, with the assistance and supervision of OLIve-UP faculty. The syllabus will build on an introduction to the subject in the first term and gradually to the standard required for BA or MA study. Tutoring classes are small, ranging from 1 to 4 students.
Tutors are ideally PhD candidates at Central European University or another Hungarian university in Budapest. CEU PhD students applying should be post-comprehensive at the start of the academic year 2017/18. Teaching experience is not a requirement, training and guidance will be provided throughout the academic year.
Applications for this position should be sent to email@example.com, with the subject line Tutoring Job - OLIve-UP and should comprise:
(1) a cover letter outlining how your academic experience (and teaching experience, if relevant) makes you a good candidate for the subject you wish to teach
(2) the names of two referees, one of whom should be your supervisor if you are a current PhD candidate
(3) a CV.
Applications must be submitted by June 25, 2017.
