Central European University (CEU) ranks among the best 100 universities worldwide, according to U-Multirank’s 2019-2020 World University Rankings.
CEU received top “A” scores in 13 different indicators considered by U-Multirank, including student-staff ratio, number of top-cited faculty publications and external research income.
CEU is the most highly rated of all 16 Hungarian universities included in the rankings. When looking at universities in Hungary as well as Austria, the location of CEU’s new campus opening in September 2019, CEU ranks second.
“CEU’s great strength as a research-focused graduate institution shines through once again. Researchers and talented students alike are drawn to CEU because of the opportunity to work with its high-caliber faculty and because of its international diversity, just two of the areas where CEU scores highly in the U-Multirank ranking,” said President and Rector Michael Ignatieff.
U-Multirank’s multi-dimensional approach to global rankings considers a university’s engagement in five areas: teaching and learning, research, knowledge transfer, international orientation and regional engagement. Rather than assigning each university a single combined score like most other ranking systems, U-Multirank scores universities from “very good” to “weak” on a series of unique indicators within the five areas mentioned above.
The university performed especially well in categories focused on international engagement. Top scores were given to CEU for the international orientation of the university’s master’s programs, the percentage of doctoral degrees awarded to international students, the number of CEU faculty publications co-authored with international collaborators and the amount of research revenue from international donors.
CEU’s commitment to high-quality research was also evident in the rankings. The university received high scores for external research income, doctorate productivity and number of publications from CEU researchers.
