Budapest, July 13, 2019—Central European University (CEU) announces that it has received accreditation as Central European University Private University, an Austrian private university.
The Austrian institutional accreditation also includes the accreditation of six degree programs: BAs in Culture, Politics, and Society (CPS); and Philosophy, Politics, and Economics (PPE); MAs in International Public Affairs (IPA); Public Policy (Mundus MAPP); Women’s and Gender Studies (GEMMA); and an MSc in Environmental Sciences, Policy and Management (MESPOM).
The administrative decision was approved by Mag. Dr. Iris Rauskala, Minister for Education and Research. "CEU is an excellent enrichment for Austria as a location for science. The new university has already received numerous ERC Starting Grants at its Hungarian location, to support its excellent researchers. This underlines and proves the quality of CEU," the Minister said. "As the 16th Austrian Private University, the range of courses offered at CEU further enriches the research landscape of our country. I hope many national and international students will do their postgraduate research here."
“We are delighted to receive Austrian accreditation for Central European University Private University and an initial six degree programs, including two new bachelors’ degrees – representing a new chapter in CEU’s history. Over the course of the next academic year, we will submit all of our US-accredited degrees for Austrian accreditation. By issuing Austrian accredited degrees from academic year 2020-21, we will enhance the higher education offered in our new home,” said CEU President and Rector Michael Ignatieff.
The Hungarian government has refused to permit CEU to enroll new students for its US-accredited degrees in Hungary as of January 1, 2019. Therefore, CEU will issue all US-accredited degrees in Vienna from the fall of 2019, at its new Vienna campus.
