The newest episode of the Democracy in Question podcast, hosted by Central European University (CEU) President and Rector, Shalini Randeria, features guest Paula Banerjee, Professor at the Department of South and Southeast Asian Studies University of Calcutta.
Banerjee is the former President of the International Association for the Study of Forced Migration and a member of the South Asian think tank, the Calcutta Research Group. Her research addresses questions of statelessness forced migration, and borders, particularly in the context of South Asia. Her writing includes "Statelessness in South Asia," "Unstable Populations, Anxious States" and "Borders, Histories, and Existences: Gender and Beyond."
The latest episode "The Right to Belong" released on November 24, explores questions of citizenship, displacement, statelessness, and the ways in which they are intricately related to questions of race and gender. The discussion includes an examination of the right to belong to a state and the right of people to move across borders in search of security and stability in the context of South Asia and beyond.
