2021 brought numerous recognitions and achievements for CEU faculty, students, staff and alumni, demonstrating the excellent caliber of the university’s global community. Below is a snapshot of the year’s honors and awards.
Andrea Peto, awarded an Honorary Doctorate by Sodertorn University; Nadia Al-Bagdadi, elected to the International Advisory Board of the Consortium of Humanities Centers and Institutes; Julián Casanova, awarded the 2020 Aragonese Literature Award; Gabor Klaniczay, inducted as Corresponding Fellow of the Medieval Academy of America; Adam Bodnar, awarded 2021 Medal "For Civic Wisdom" by Krakow Monthly; Marija Golubeva, appointed Minister of the Interior of Latvia; Niko Tatulashvili, appointed Human Rights Advisor in Georgia; Jaroslav Miller, appointed President of Anglo-American University, Prague, Czech Republic; Ana Belen Amil and Ruth Candlish, honored by the International Association of Maternal Action and Scholarship (IAMAS); Xymena Kurowska, recognized by the European International Studies Association (EISA); Laszlo Barabasi and Federico Battiston, honored by the European Physical Society (EPS); Dorottya Redai, named as one of TIME Magazine's 100 Most Influential People of 2021, also receives Emma Goldman Snowball Award; Martino Comelli, awarded the Egon Matzner Prize for Socioeconomics; Diana Urge-Vorsatz, shortlisted for the Austrian State Award for Environment and Energy Technology 2021 in Research and Innovation; Ulrike Plettenbacher, nominated for a second term as Vice President of the Austrian Private Universities Conference (ÖPUK); Martin Kahanec, appointed Chairperson of Economics, Business, and Management Sciences, Academia Europaea; Priscilla Santos, Sustainability Award Finalist, Association for the Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education (AASHE); Iacopo Iacopini, awarded the Complex Systems Society Emerging Researcher Award Andrea Weber, appointed to the Board of Editors for the Journal of the European Economic Association (JEEA); Sahar Fetrat, recognized as one on the’s BBC 100 Women of 2021; Bela Greskovits received the 2021 East European Politics Best Article Prize; and Diana Urge-Vorsatz, appointed to Science Advisory Committee of IIASA.
