Vienna is known to be one of the richest cultural locations in Europe, offering its visitors architectural eye-candy and gastronomical delights. However, the majority of tourists focus only on the most well-known sights, disregarding amazing spots located on Vienna’s borders. Therefore, here’s a list of the best offbeat attractions in Vienna:

1. Vienna Vineyards

Known for its exquisite wine, Austrians are extremely fond of their own grape product. There is a spot in the hills right on the northern part of Vienna covered with vineyards. Reserve a day for a hike to the vineyards to enjoy the lovely nature and finish your day in one of the wineries sipping a delicious drink while observing the beautiful city view.

2. Habsburgwarte

On your way to the vineyards, you can also pay a visit to an interesting 130-year old object, the skillfully crafted observation tower. Reminiscent architecturally of the medieval fortresses of Central Europe, Habsburgwarte was erected to celebrate Emperor Franz Joseph’s 40th jubilee and rises 28 meters above the lush greenery of the local forest.

3. Leopoldsberg

One of the most prominent hills on the outskirts of Vienna is visible even from the city itself, due to its height of 425 meters and a light yellow church almost on the top. The hill contains several interesting objects that are definitely worth visiting. First of all, there is the aforementioned church, dedicated to Saint Leopold. Moreover, next to the church visitors can enjoy a view of the city and Danube from the observation deck. If you are eager to reach the top of the hill, you will be rewarded with the massive fortress and the monument to Ukrainian Cossacks, who fought in the 1683 Battle of Vienna.

4. Kurpark Oberlaa

One of the largest Viennese recreational areas was rapidly modified during the International Garden Exhibition in 1974. Due to the massive work of the park’s project managers, today it contains various themed areas with botanically significant flowers and trees. Moreover, visitors can choose their spots for relaxing from a variety of interesting areas, including lakes and playgrounds.
