Ambedkar English Tutoring Program Wraps Up for the Academic Year

In 2021, as part of its Education Program, the Blinken Open Society Archives partnered with the CEU Community Engagement Office (CoEn) by providing coordination and planning in the CoEn's Ambedkar English Tutoring Program. The program was initiated in 2016 by Karoly Boroczky, Head of the Department of Mathematics and Its Applications at CEU.

The Dr. Ambedkar High School, founded in 2007 in Sajokaza, which currently operates in Miskolc, is a second-chance school with the goal of providing students facing multiple disadvantage backgrounds a chance to graduate high school. The school was founded in a region where the possibility of further education is inaccessible for most inhabitants, in communities where the proportion of graduates fails to reach 1%.

To wrap up the program of 2021/2022 Visegrad Scholarship at OSA fellows currently researching in Blinken OSA took an active role in the last meeting. The 13 students and their two teachers arrived in Budapest in the evening of June 9 and had an exciting meeting when hitching a ride on the Budapest Eye, the Ferris wheel in downtown Budapest.

The following day, the Visegrad Fellows of Blinken OSA served as quiz masters and play fellows during an English language quiz program specifically designed to improve the language skills of the students. The program continued with a boat ride on the Danube where students were encouraged to speak English with the accompanying staff members and Visegrad Fellows, while enjoying the sights of the capital. After a hearty lunch the Fellows returned to their research and the students left for the railway station, all in beautiful weather, as befitting such a wonderful program.
