In June 2014, the Department hosted the Association of Nationalism Studies (NSA) conference, focusing on "Nationalist Responses to Economic and Political Crises." The Deparment's selection as the host underscores the important role that the CEU Nationalism Studies Program plays in the global study of nationalism.

Undergraduate Conference: In August 2014, the departments of History and Medieval Studies co-hosted a large scale Undergraduate Conference under the title "Empire and Nation." 140 students from 41 countries applied to the conference, 70 eventually presented papers at the conference.

CEU Gender Studies is one of the largest, best established and truly multi-disciplinary gender studies departments in Europe. The Department run four MA programs and a PhD in Comparative Gender Studies, including specializations in science studies, policy studies, and political thought.

Starting of the Erasmus Mundus Master of Science in Environmental Sciences, Policy and Management (MESPOM) Consortium with three other European Universities in 2005.
