CEU Trustee Christ Named UC Berkeley Chancellor

CEU Trustee Carol T. Christ, currently UC Berkeley's interim executive vice chancellor and provost, has been selected as UC Berkeley's chancellor-designate, according to a statement by the university. Her nomination by University of California President Janet Napolitano was confirmed by the UC Board of Regents March 16, making Christ the first woman to serve in the role, becoming the 11th chancellor of UC Berkeley on July 1.

Rippon Promoted to Associate Professor

Simon Rippon, who holds a joint appointment in the Department of Philosophy and the School of Public Policy has been promoted to the rank of Associate Professor, effective December 1, 2016, based on the recommendation of the Provost supported by the Reappointment and Promotion Committee.

Kahanec Appointed to Panel of Experts for the European Court of Auditors' EU Labour Mobility Audit

Professor Martin Kahanec of the School of Public Policy at CEU has been appointed Member of the Panel of Experts for the European Court of Auditors' EU Labour Mobility Audit. The Audit will concern the freedom of movement for workers in the EU, and the role of the European Commission as a guardian of Article 45 of the Treaty on the Functioning of the EU and the use of European Programme for Employment and Social Innovation and the European Social Fund in facilitating labor mobility in the EU.

CMDS's Coyer Named Fellow at Harvard's Berkman Klein Center for Internet & Society

Kate Coyer, director of the Civil Society and Technology Project at CEU's Center for Media, Data and Society (CMDS) in the School of Public Policy, was named a fellow at Harvard's Berkman Klein Center for Internet & Society. During this academic year, Coyer will research the role of Internet companies in responding to violent extremism online and the impacts on privacy and freedom of expression.

Wilke Named Director of CEU Center for Religious Studies

Carsten Wilke, associate professor in the CEU Departments of History and Medieval Studies, has been named director of the Center for Religious Studies (CRS). He takes over for University Professor Aziz Al-Azmeh from the History Department.
