The CEU Distinguished Teaching Award recognizes CEU faculty members for promoting high standards of teaching, linked with the mission and institutional ambitions of CEU. Initiated by the Provost and established by the CEU Senate in 2014, this award not only underscores CEU's long-standing commitment to excellence in teaching, but also provides an opportunity for faculty, students and alumni to acknowledge teaching at CEU that has had a special impact on their academic work and lives. The Award will be presented at the CEU Opening Ceremony in September 2017.

The CEU Award for Outstanding Research was founded to recognize outstanding research by CEU faculty that has significant international impact. Nominations should be sent to firstname.lastname@example.org in electronic format by Friday, March 31, 2017.

CEU’s campus redevelopment project, the first phase of which was completed in August 2016 with the opening of the new Nador 13 and 15 buildings, received the Environmental Social and Sustainability Award, part of the CIJ Awards Hungary competition sponsored by CIJ, Europe’s leading Real Estate digital and print news provider. Campus Redevelopment Director Pal Baross accepted the award on behalf of CEU November 29 at the Ritz-Carlton Hotel here in Budapest.

Albert-Laszlo Barabasi, visiting professor at CEU’s Center for Network Science and the Department of Economics, was awarded the Gabor Denes Prize, an honor presented each year to Hungarian scientists who have demonstrated extraordinary innovation. The prize is named for physicist, electrical engineer, and humanist Dennis Gabor (1900-1979, known as Gabor Denes in Hungarian), who won the 1971 Nobel Prize in Physics for inventing the hologram. The award was presented to Barabasi and 12 other scientists on Dec. 22 at the Hungarian Parliament.

CEU President and Rector Michael Ignatieff was appointed to the Order of Canada Dec. 30, the country's highest honor. Ignatieff was recognized for his “contributions to the advancement of knowledge as a human-rights scholar and reporter.”

CEU’s President and Rector Michael Ignatieff received the International Recognition Award at the Political Studies Association (PSA)’s Annual Awards Ceremony in London on November 29.

CEU received the Digitalization Award 2016 from Siemens Zrt. in recognition of its leadership and accomplishments in using digital technologies to optimize activities across the institution. The prize was presented at the Siemens Gala 2016 at the Varkert Bazar in Budapest on November 24, and was accepted by IT Director Szilard Bedecs. Library Director Diane Geraci was also honored.

Associate Professor Prem Kumar Rajaram of the Department of Sociology and Social Anthropology, as well as alumni Aleksander Tarkowski, who graduated from that department in 2007, and Marek Antos, who graduated from the Department of Legal Studies in 2013, have been named to the NewEurope100 list of changemakers in Central and Eastern Europe for their innovative contributions in society and politics.

CEU Campus Redevelopment Officer Zofia Pazitna won the Chris Bennett CEE Memorial Award for her performance as a candidate for membership in the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS), the world’s leading professional qualification in the fields of land, real estate, infrastructure and construction.
