Dr. Shakuntala Banaji, lecturer and programme director of the Master's in Media, Communication and Development in the Department of Media and Communications at the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE), has been selected as recipient of the fourth annual European Award for Excellence in Teaching in the Social Sciences and Humanities. The award, initiated by CEU Provost and Pro-Rector Liviu Matei and overseen by the University's Center for Teaching and Learning (CTL) aims to promote excellence in teaching across the European Higher Education Area (EHEA).

CEU’s Annual Report 2014 won a Platinum Award, the top honors, in the Hermes Creative Awards, an international competition for professionals involved in the concept, design, writing and publication of traditional and emerging media. CEU’s suite of recruitment videos also won a Gold Award in the Public Relations Video category.

Jean-Louis Fabiani, professor in the Department of Sociology and Social Anthropology, has been promoted to the order of “Officier des arts et lettres” by the French Minister of Culture Fleur Pellerin, in recognition of his “significant contributions to the arts and literature” in France. Helga Dorner, lecturer at the Center for Teaching and Learning, has been named a 2015 EDEN Fellow by the European Distance and E-Learning Network (EDEN) in recognition of demonstrated excellence in professional practice in the field of flexible and distance learning. Founded in the UK in 1991, EDEN is the largest professional organization in Europe dedicated to the advancement of open, distance, flexible and e-learning. Dorner will receive the award at the organization’s annual conference in Barcelona on June 9th.

CEU Trustee Attila Chikan, chairman of the Hungarian Association of Logistics, Purchasing and Inventory Management (HALPIM) and professor emeritus at Corvinus University, was named the first recipient of a lifetime achievement prize by the International Purchasing and Supply Education and Research Association (IPSERA).

CEU's Simona Gamonte, program coordinator for the University's Human RightS Initiative (HRSI), was honored by the Romanian Roma Women Gala (Gala Femeilor Rome) in the category "Human Rights Activist" for her ongoing dedication to and work in the field of human rights. The gala was initiated in 2011 to honor Roma women who work to improve the lives of Roma communities.

Ervin Gyori, professor at CEU’s Department of Mathematics, was awarded the Officer's Cross of the Order of Merit of the Republic of Hungary by the President of the Republic of Hungary Janos Ader on March 15. Gyori, who is also a senior research fellow at the Alfred Renyi Institute of Mathematics of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences, received the award in recognition of his outstanding scientific achievements in discrete mathematics and his manifold activities in organizing Hungarian scientific life.

Budapest, March 17, 2015 – The European Economic Association (EEA) and the Yrjo Jahnsson Foundation named CEU Professor Botond Koszegi the winner of the 2015 Yrjo Jahnsson Award for his contribution to the theoretical foundations of behavioral economics, and its application to public finance and contract theory. The award is accompanied by a €20,000 prize from the Yrjo Jahnsson Foundation.
