Discussion on 'Hate Speech' and the Limits of Free Speech in a University Community

The discussion opens with two brief presentations by Erzsébet Barát - Associate Professor at the Gender Studies Department, and Péter Molnár - Senior Research Fellow at the Center for Media and Communication Studies.

Péter Molnár will summarise the two main conceptual responses to "hate Speech", and address issues like whether the CEU Code of Ethics provides content-based restrictions on "hate speech", or allows for restrictions only is such speech causes imminent danger.

Erzsébet Barát will talk about "Negotiating the Free Speech versus Equal Treatment Conflict" - exploring the apparent conflict between the entitlement to free speech and the equally important entitlement to personal integrity and personhood.
