CEU Health Insurance Plans

The CEU Health Insurance Plans are available to international students – including EEA citizens in possession of an EHIC – enrolled at Central European University for the duration of their enrollment in Austria or Hungary. The plans cover the costs of medical care, medication, and medical aids, as well as reasonable patient transport received in medical necessities. The insurance coverage is limited only to those insurance events that happen in the territory of Europe (except Switzerland) while studying in Austria and in the territory of Hungary while studying in Hungary. The Plans do not cover any extra costs beyond the set limits. When you spend time out of the covered geographical territories, we recommend you purchase travel insurance - please click here for further information.

This is the first time we use a different method to activate student insurances not to mention conducting semi-online studies at CEU. If you have questions, concerns regarding health insurance please first consult the Health Insurance Plans FAQ and then reach out to the Student Centers at studentcenter@ceu.edu (Vienna) or at studentlife@ceu.edu (Budapest).

Visiting and exchange students are not provided with the CEU Health Insurance Plan free of charge, but they can purchase the insurance with the help of the Student Centers. Post-docs are not considered full-time students at CEU. If you are a post-doc researcher receiving a grant, you may turn to the Grants Office for further guidance at grants@ceu.edu.

US citizens are strongly advised to check the necessity of purchasing additional insurance to fulfill IRS requirements.

Students who do not intend to use the CEU Health Insurance Plans must submit, immediately upon arrival on campus, evidence of membership in an alternative insurance plan that covers medical services in Austria or Hungary. In case student brings their alternative insurance, it must comply with the minimum standards of the CEU Health Insurance Plans.
