Austria

If you find documents (or anything valuable) on the street please be kind and bring them to the local lost and found office. You find a list here:

If you lost something yourself you can check the online database here: Online-Fundamt Österreich to see if someone returned it. In Vienna, you can contact your local district municipality office or the central lost and found office ( contact Fundamt)

If you have lost your confirmation of registration (Meldezettel) or need a new one you can make an informal request for the issue of a confirmation of registration to the registration authority in person or in writing. In Vienna this is done at the municipal district office (Bezirksamt). Here is a list for the registration authority in each district. Meldeamt - Adressen, Öffnungszeiten, Termine (wien.gv.at)

All you need is an ID card to get a new Meldezettel.

Fees: To get a confirmation of registration in person is free but if you request it in writing a fee of 14,50EUR is charged.

If you have lost your Austrian driver's license, a loss or theft report must be made to the police immediately – but at the latest one week after the loss or theft. This can be done at any police station in Austria. A confirmation of the loss or theft report is valid for four weeks as a replacement driver's license – but only within Austria.

To get a new driver’s license you need to file an application at the traffic department (Verkehrsamt).

In Vienna the is located here: Dietrichgasse 27, 1030 Wien

To get a new drivers license you need:

  • Official photo ID
  • Loss or theft report
  • A photo (portrait format 35 mm x 45 mm) according to passport photo criteria
