Austria
If you find documents (or anything valuable) on the street please be kind and bring them to the local lost and found office.
If you lost something yourself you can check the online database here: Online-Fundamt Österreich to see if someone returned it. In Vienna, you can contact your local district municipality office or the central lost and found office (contact Fundamt).
- RESIDENCE PERMIT
If you lost residence permit student, a report of the loss needs to be made to the police as soon as possible. Make an appointment at your local MA35 to get a new card. Here you will find the application form to replace a lost one.
Fee: 160 EUR
- MELDEZETTEL
If you have lost your confirmation of registration (Meldezettel) or need a new one you can make an informal request for the issue of a confirmation of registration to the registration authority in person or in writing. In Vienna this is done at the municipal district office (Bezirksamt). Here is a list for the registration authority in each district. Meldeamt - Adressen, Öffnungszeiten, Termine (wien.gv.at)
All you need is an ID card to get a new Meldezettel.
Fees: To get a confirmation of registration in person is free but if you request it in writing a fee of 14,50EUR is charged.
- DRIVER'S LICENSE
If you have lost your Austrian driver's license, a loss or theft report must be made to the police immediately – but at the latest one week after the loss or theft. This can be done at any police station in Austria. A confirmation of the loss or theft report is valid for four weeks as a replacement driver's license – but only within Austria.
To get a new driver’s license you need to file an application at the traffic department (Verkehrsamt).

To get a new drivers license you need:
- Official photo ID
- Loss or theft report
- A photo (portrait format 35 mm x 45 mm) according to passport photo criteria
- Confirmation of registration
Fees: 50 EUR
- E-CARD
If you lost your E-Card please contact the e-card service line under 050 124 33 11. The old card will be canceled and you get a new card within a few days.
Fees: No fee
Hungary
Please follow the instructions below in case your Hungarian residence permit or registration certificate is lost, destroyed, damaged or stolen. Kindly inform the Student Center as well in person or via email: studentlife@ceu.edu.
RESIDENCE PERMITS (NON-EEA NATIONALS)
1) Report the case to the Police:
- If you are in Budapest, contact any of the police stations (under the drop-down menu of ‘Kapitanysagok’ on the right, next to the map) on this link: http://www.police.hu/ugyintezes/szerv/orszagos-rendor-fokapitanysag/budapesti-rendor-fokapitanysag.
- If you lose your residence permit outside Hungary, you should report the case to the nearest police station. In order to return to Hungary, you need to contact the closest Hungarian Embassy or Consulate to request a Certificate.
2) Visit the National Directorate-General for Aliens Policing for Student Residence Permits and apply for a replacement residence permit.
