The Career Services Office at Central European University (CEU) invites applications for the position of Career Services Coordinator (Engagement and Outreach focus). This is an opportunity to contribute to student and alumni career development and employment outcomes at a mission-driven organization recognized as one of the world's most internationally diverse institutions of higher education. We seek a very well-organized colleague with experience driving client engagement through tailored communication. Depending on candidate qualifications, this role may also include student career advising.

The initial contract is for one year, with the possibility of renewal.

CEU Career Services Office
The CEU Career Services Office (CSO) plays a leading role in institutional efforts to ensure that the university's graduates are prepared to transform their CEU experience into meaningful professional engagement. The CSO works directly with students and alumni, offering guidance, support and information to help them develop and pursue personal visions for impact and success all over the world. This includes the organization of multiple opportunities each year for students and alumni to engage with the office and learn about career paths and gain fundamental career development skills. The office also cultivates partnerships with current and potential employer partners in order to foster awareness of the value of a CEU education and to create opportunities for CEU students and alumni. CEU's degree programs are primarily in the social sciences and liberal arts.

The team member will serve as an integral member of the CSO team, collaborating with other team members on a range of initiatives, events and activities. Each team member serves as the lead for specific functional programs and/or projects. The main functional area of responsibility for this role will be Engagement and Outreach. Functional Areas of Responsibility
The main functional area of responsibility of the new team member will be Engagement and Outreach. Additionally, depending on candidate experience and qualifications, the team member may serve as a career advisor to specific student groups as detailed below.

Engagement and Outreach
The Engagement and Outreach functional area is the CSO's main channel for ensuring the CEU community and our partners know about our activities and students understand how they can engage with us. Functional area activities include:

  • Creating and implementing complex annual communications plans geared towards driving student engagement with the CSO and increasing institutional awareness of the work of the office via channels including regular e-newsletters and e-campaigns, social media posts and campaigns,; and print materials;
  • Coordinating and contributing extensively to CSO communication towards alumni, faculty, and administrative colleagues as well as external partners via multiple platforms and tools;
  • Managing CSO digital presence including CSO website, social media, and internal SharePoint;
  • Maintaining CSO calendars and ensuring all administrative aspects are set in advance of career events;
  • Contributing to data collection activities to help the office track engagement and other metrics in support of evidence-based decision making and reporting.

Career Advising
Depending on candidate experience and qualifications, this role may will also include career advising. In that case, the team member will serve as the main career advisor to dedicated student groups in the social sciences and humanities. This involves responsibilities and duties including:

  • Conducting one-on-one career advising sessions with CEU students and alumni on common career development topics;
  • Engaging directly with assigned student populations via email and conducting other outreach to promote CSO initiatives;
  • Organizing and facilitating in-person and/or virtual career education and/or employer events;
  • Identifying job, internship and fellowship opportunities of relevance to CEU students and alumni and sharing this information via CEU's careers platform, CareerNext;
  • Gathering information about employers of potential relevance to specific student groups and attending occasional meetings with current and potential employer partners;
  • Contributing conscientiously to CSO efforts to track student engagement with the office.

The team member may be assigned additional functional programs or projects.

Qualifications and skills:


  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to organize and disseminate information through multiple channels, tailoring as necessary to diverse target audiences;
  • Excellent administrative and program/project management skills as well as experience and a high level of comfort coordinating multiple complex projects simultaneously;
  • Ability to conceptualize and create compelling promotional materials and campaigns (both visuals and text) and disseminate them via tools such as email and/or social media;
  • Near native-level fluency in English and excellent English-language writing and editing skills;
  • A high level of comfort working in dynamic, fast-paced environments;
  • A flexible, proactive and collaborative approach;
  • Excellent PowerPoint skills and experience using or the ability to quickly learn programs such as Canva, InDesign, and/or Infogram; web-editing software; and e-marketing software such as Constant Contact or MailChimp;
  • High level of comfort using videoconference technology and other tools for conducting meetings and hosting virtual events;
  • University degree (Bachelor's or higher, Master's preferred).


  • Advising experience, ideally student career advising in an international higher education context
  • Knowledge of career paths pursued by graduate and/or undergraduate university graduates of degree programs in the social sciences and humanities in the non-profit, public, multilateral and/or private sectors, both within and outside of Europe.

The annual gross salary starts at 42,000 EUR. The actual final salary might be higher depending on the seniority and level of expertise of the selected candidate. Additional benefits are possibility to work one day / week from home and some additional fringe benefits.
