The Innovations Lab (iLab) at Central European University (CEU) invites applications for a Data Analyst and Project Manager position. At CEU iLab we nurture innovative new businesses that work to create solutions for the most pressing global challenges. Our entrepreneur teams work at various industries, are at different phases of their project development, and have different personalities, but they all work hard to succeed. At CEU iLab we want to analyze the factors that lead to success in order to predict the future performance of startups, by applying scientific techniques to find patterns in startup related datasets. We aim to create, discover, and analyze data sources that will drive tomorrow’s entrepreneurship-related research initiatives.



About the role

We are looking for a passionate certified Data Analyst and Project Manager. The successful candidate will turn data into information, information into insight and insight into business decisions. The Data Analyst’s responsibilities include conducting full lifecycle analysis including requirements, activities and design. Data analysts will develop analysis and reporting capabilities. They will also monitor performance and quality control plans to identify improvements.

The Data Analyst’s future tasks will be:

  • Interpreting data and analyzing results using statistical techniques
  • Building and running iLab operations-related data collection processes
  • Developing and implementing data analyses, data collection systems and other strategies that optimize statistical efficiency and quality
  • Acquiring data from primary or secondary data sources and maintaining databases
  • validating and visualizing diverse data sources; helping build tools to enable data science initiatives across the iLab operation


The Data Analyst is a key part of our team whose work will be cross-departmental working closely with other key stakeholders. You will also need to feel comfortable multi-tasking in a fast-paced environment. You will be expected to show resourcefulness, exhibit accountability, and understand the role well enough to work independently and demonstrate initiative. As the Data analyst, you will be required to search and analyze global data bases in the field of early-stage entrepreneurship and startups, as well suggest benchmarking methods for iLab startups. We are looking for a person who will have full ownership of their area of responsibility and who will drive iLab’s Data Analytics.


About You

We are looking for a quick learner who is highly organized and comfortable working with many projects. We are looking for someone with a self-starting positive attitude, ability to thrive in an autonomous environment and willingness to learn.


  • Proven working experience as a data analyst or business data analyst
  • Technical expertise regarding data models, database design development, data mining and segmentation techniques
  • Project management experience
  • Strong knowledge of, and experience with, reporting packages (Business Objects etc), databases (SQL etc.), programming (XML, Javascript, or ETL frameworks)
  • Knowledge of statistics and experience using statistical packages for analyzing datasets (Excel, SPSS, SAS etc.)
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to collect, organize, analyze, and disseminate significant amounts of information with attention to detail and accuracy
  • Adept at queries, reporting and presenting findings
  • Proficiency in Mathematics, Economics, Computer Science, Information Management or Statistics
  • Comfortable working in a highly international, diverse, rapidly evolving, extremely dynamic environment
