Reflecting on the intellectual strengths and values of its parent institution, Central European University, the CEU Press has been publishing books since 1993 by authors from around the world on a wide range of subjects in the Humanities and Social Sciences, including political philosophy and practices of open society, history, Jewish studies, economics, medieval studies, literature, legal studies, nationalism, human rights, political science, international relations, gender studies, media studies, and art history. We publish authors that bring a regional perspective to some of the major issues of the world, contributing to global debates on pressing topics such as democracy and climate change.

We invite applications for a part-time (20 hrs/week) Digital Marketing Officer position. This is a creative role to produce, schedule and deliver all digital marketing content for CEU Press. The new colleague will plan, design, schedule and monitor content for the CEU Press platform, other digital marketing platforms and social media accounts. They will liaise with internal and external stakeholder to grow engagement, usage and sales for an increasing number of titles per annum at CEU Press.

Key Responsibilities:
The new Digital Marketing Officer will be responsible for overall planning, designing and scheduling of content for digital marketing platforms and social media accounts.

  • Work closely with Head of Marketing to create and update strategic content plans and manuals for the CEU Press site, other digital marketing platforms and social media accounts
  • Collate individual title marketing plans for all forthcoming publications (about 40 per year, growing to 50)
  • Build creative marketing content in line with the Press’ vision, mission and values and ensure consistency of voice across all outlets
  • Create and update content for CEU Press site (news, banners, videos, podcasts) and other digital platforms
  • Update online marketing manuals
  • Track performance of marketing activities and use insights from analytics to feed into strategy
  • Create digital inventory in Canva or other tools
  • Build e-marketing campaigns with Head of Sales & Marketing and manage email lists with Sales & Marketing Coordinator
  • Write marketing copy with Editorial to be used in catalogues, on social media and for PR purposes
  • Create marketing materials for authors and individual series/titles (flyers, banners, bookmarks, email signatures)
  • Produce posts, monitor and engage with social media activity, respond to comments and messages
  • Send out review copy requests in liaison with Editors for individual titles and build up relationships with relevant publications

Person Specification:

  • Highly creative and able to create relevant, engaging and visual digital content
  • Clear and skillful communication skills
  • Excellent time management and attention to detail
  • Self-motivated, pro-active, and in search of new ideas
  • Ability to work well with the Press team, academics and external partners


  • Bachelor’s degree (at least)
  • Minimum 3 years experience in digital marketing
  • Fluent English language skills in written and spoken communications
  • Excellent writer with a flair for language
  • Understanding of academic publishing, desired

We offer a competitive salary that is commensurate with experience, as well as a dynamic and international academic environment. The initial contract is for one year with the possibility of renewal.
