The Center for Teaching and Learning (CTL) at Central European University (CEU) invites applications for two Lecturer positions.

Founded in 2011, the Center for Teaching and Learning comprises teaching and learning scholars who work with doctoral students and faculty across all departments and schools. The CTL contributes to CEU's longstanding commitment to excellence in teaching and a community engaged in inquiry, debate, and discovery. We expect applicants with a background in social sciences and humanities and an excellent teaching record. The two lecturers will support CEU faculty and collaborate with them on contemporary, research-based approaches to teaching and mentoring in undergraduate and graduate education. They will teach courses in higher education pedagogy for CEU PhD students, as well as support doctoral students as they grow as future university teachers. The lecturers will also be involved in mentoring CEU Global Teaching Fellows. The initial contract is for one year with the possibility of renewal.

Duties and responsibilities:

  • Teaching courses in the CTL Certificate Program for Excellence in Teaching in Higher Education for CEU doctoral students
  • Mentoring of CEU Global Teaching Fellows
  • Supporting faculty in their teaching at CEU
  • Supporting faculty in teaching innovations and research on their teaching (Teaching Development Grants)
  • Supporting CEU doctoral students and graduates of CEU doctoral programs in scholarly teaching
  • Development of new initiatives and programs at the CTL in areas of discipline-specific pedagogies and blended and online teaching
  • Participating in activities of research organizations such as EuroSoTL (European group of the International Society for Scholarship of Teaching and Learning) or ICED (The International Consortium for Educational Development)
  • Administrative duties
  • Participate in writing grant proposals to attract funding for CTL teaching and research activities

Qualifications:

  • PhD in social sciences or humanities with documented teaching experience in programs for excellence in teaching.
  • The candidate should have interest and demonstrated expertise in, at least, one area in research on teaching and learning in higher education (for example: design for learning, blended learning, experiential learning, diversity in higher education, assessment of student learning, reflective practice).
  • Further advantages include experience with (online) mentoring for teaching in higher education.
  • Preference will be given to applicants who exhibit a passion for teaching and an openness to employing innovative teaching approaches to active student learning.

Residence
The appointment will be in Vienna, occasional teaching, consultations and mentoring might be required also in Budapest.

Compensation
We offer a competitive salary that is commensurate with experience as well as a dynamic and international academic environment.
