The Department of History at Central European University (CEU) invites applications for a Part-Time (20 hours/week) Department Coordinator position.

 

Background:

The Department of History offers programs of considerable breadth, on both the Master’s and the Doctoral level, challenging canons by means of thorough empirical research and cutting-edge methodological and theoretical reflection.

The Department offers research-driven historical education to train future scholars, academic and public leaders, and professionals with a broad horizon. Its teaching and research focus is on early modern and modern history from the sixteenth century to the present, with a number of regional concentrations, including Central and Eastern Europe as well as the Ottoman and Russian Empires, the Soviet Union, and their successor states, going beyond these geographical and temporal boundaries with a comparative and interdisciplinary perspective. Your duties and responsibilities:

  • Coordinate the department financial activities, accounts payable, travel, purchasing, expenditures.
  • Monitor the budget.
  • Manage payments via SAP and financial forms.
  • Prepare personnel documents for (visiting) faculty, researchers, and student assistants for their employment contracts and payroll.
  • Communication with central university administration.
  • Support the administration of the academic programs (student admissions, course enrollment, administering records, credit and grade entry, data maintenance).
  • Perform data collection, analysis and reporting to the Head of Department and faculty, preparing meeting minutes etc.
  • Handling day-to-day operation and technical problems. 

Your skills and qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree (minimum). 
  • At least 3 years of working experience in a position with similar tasks, ideally in higher education. 
  • Excellent communication and writing skills in English. 
  • Outstanding financial and analytical skills.
  • An interest in working on finance and HR-related tasks in an international environment. 
  • High level computer literacy and advanced knowledge of the MS Office suite and mastery of databases.
  • Discretion when dealing with sensitive/confidential information.
  • Ability to work in a team and to complete tasks independently and under pressure
  • Excellent organizational and reporting skills. 
  • Structured and flexible way of thinking. 
  • A precise, proactive and efficient attitude and work ethics. 
  • Great attention to detail. 
  • Ability to prioritize multiple tasks and take initiative. 
  • Ability to follow instructions and meet deadlines. 
  • Ability to understand and learn new tasks quickly. 
  • Experience in marketing/branding/social media and German language knowledge are considered as an advantage.

We offer a competitive salary starting from gross 42,000 EUR/year (prorated). A higher salary is possible if warranted by the candidate’s working experience.
