Program Coordinator

Application deadline:
Open until filled
Starting date :
June 1, 2019

The Department of Economics and Business at Central European University (CEU) invites applications for a full-time Program Coordinator position for the Executive Master of Business Administration (CEU EMBA). The initial contract is for a trial period of 3 months with the expectation of renewal for another year and then indefinitely, based on identifiable success. The program, to be launched in May 2020, will be unique in emphasizing the connection between successful management and the values of open society.

The successful candidate will report directly to the Co-Directors of the CEU EMBA, provide administrative support to our teaching faculty and work with the Program Manager and members of horizontal university administrative services. The Program Coordinator will be primarily responsible for ensuring the world-class customer experience of approximately 140 participants. Given the modular format of the program, one of the key functions of the Coordinator will be to integrate physical and online aspects of customer interaction.

This is a highly attractive opportunity to be a part of a small, entrepreneurial team developing a completely new educational program. We are looking for someone with strong time management and organizational skills who is also a "digital native" able to learn fast by working with some of the region's most distinguished online education specialists.

The position is in Budapest, but occasional travel to Vienna will be required. In the longer run, there will also be an opportunity (but not a requirement) to move to Vienna full-time.

Duties and responsibilities:

  • Setting up and managing the course management site using CEU's Moodle software, CEU's registrar system, the program's external website and the program's social media channels (Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter, Instagram). This work will require constant cooperation with the program's senior faculty, who will be providing content.
  • Dealing with physical organization of the program's four modules, including tasks such as securing classroom space, organizing extracurricular activities, etc. This includes the summer module held annually in mid-August, as well as modules held around November 1 and May 1, which means that the position requires commitment not to schedule vacations between mid-July and late August as well as around the November 1 and May 1 "long weekends."
  • Managing program paperwork. Eventually, a third employee will be hired to deal with administrative issues; until then, the Coordinator will need to combine the above-mentioned customer experience tasks with more mundane administrative tasks.

The candidate must

  • Be a cultural fit for the program. We expect professionals with strong commitment to open society values, a global mindset and cultural sensitivity, given the internationally diverse nature of the CEU EMBA participants and faculty.
  • Be a "digital native." Apart from advanced skills in the MS Office package, we do not require any experience in the software to be used in the role (Moodle, CEU's registrar and website editing platforms, social media business platforms) and, indeed, the position provides a great opportunity to acquire skills in managing a hybrid online-offline educational program. To satisfy the demanding online and offline work requirements, the employee must be a fast learner of digital tools with ability to gain proficiency, not only through formal training, but mostly through a mix of learning-by-doing and self-learning with the use of publicly available online resources.
  • Have a sense for good design and visual aesthetics in documents, presentations and online content. Formal experience with graphic design is not required. Ensuring a consistent, clean and professional style of all documents and forms of communication with the participants will be one of the most important responsibilities of the Coordinator. One of the benefits of the job will be the ability to work with distinguished faculty highly experienced in designing attractive pedagogical materials; the Coordinator can expect to be trained in advanced MS PowerPoint features as well as in Adobe Creative Suite software.
  • Be organized and self-motivated. The work of developing a completely new, highly innovative educational product with multiple stakeholders and in a fluid two-campus environment is of a highly entrepreneurial nature. Strong time-management skills are a must.
  • Be a skilled communicator in English. Knowledge of German will be an asset.

We offer a competitive salary that is commensurate with experience as well as a dynamic and international academic environment.

How to apply

Applicants need to submit:

  • CV
  • Cover letter detailing relevant qualifications for the position
  • Statement of purpose outlining the interest in being part of the team of the EMBA program committed to the values of open society
