The Department of Economics and Business at Central European University (CEU) invites applications for a full-time Senior Program Manager position for the Executive Master of Business Administration (CEU EMBA). The initial contract is for a trial period of 3 months, with the expectation of renewal for 1 year and then for an indefinite contract based on identifiable success. The program, to be launched in May 2020, will be unique in emphasizing the connection between successful management practices and the values of the Open Society.

The successful candidate will report directly to the Co-Directors of the CEU EMBA. The Senior Program Manager will be responsible for leading and executing non-academic, program-wide activities for the CEU EMBA. This is a strategic opportunity for an experienced professional who is highly knowledgeable about the Vienna business community and who has built a valuable professional network in Austria and internationally that can serve multiple strategic objectives of the CEU EMBA. This role will also involve travel to targeted recruitment and promotion locations.

The position is in Vienna, but frequent travel throughout Europe will be required.

Duties and responsibilities:

  • Working with the Co-Directors of the CEU EMBA and relevant units of the University the candidate will develop and manage a series of strategic partnerships and outreach activities with corporate, NGO and other organizations in Vienna and across Europe. The partnerships and outreach should achieve a number of objectives, including program promotion and sponsorship, student recruitment and learning/networking opportunities for CEU EMBA participants.
  • Managing the non-academic activities of modules for the CEU EMBA in Vienna and Budapest, including extra-curricular events such as guest speakers and alumni reunions. This includes the summer module held annually in mid-August, as well as the modules help around November 1 and May 1, which means that the position requires commitment not to schedule vacations between mid-July and late August or around the November 1 and May 1 “long weekends.”
  • Representing the Program at events (fairs, conferences, corporate visits, etc.) across Europe. This task requires extensive experience with public speaking and leading negotiations.
  • Being the primary point of contact for program-related inquiries of 140 executive-level participants.


The candidate must:

  • Possess at least 10 years of relevant work experience with a proven track record of success and results in their field of business and management expertise. There is also a strong preference for a candidate with previous experience of industry association, public affairs or program management roles at an internationally renowned graduate business school. Work experience in Austria strongly preferred.
  • Be an excellent communicator in English and German, with a record of successful public speaking and participation in high-level negotiations. Knowledge of other languages would be an asset, although it is not required.
  • Be a graduate from a recognized university, preferably with experience of participation in studies involving an international component (e.g. student exchange program)
  • Be a self-motivated, results-oriented, energetic and highly organized team player.
  • Have an ability and interest in managing events related to the academic program, e.g. alumni reunions.
  • Be a cultural fit for the program. We expect professionals with commitment to open society values, a global mindset and cultural sensitivity, given the internationally diverse nature of the CEU EMBA participants and faculty.


As this position is a strategic one for the CEU EMBA, a highly competitive salary is offered commensurate with the candidate’s experience and prevailing compensation in the Vienna executive market.
