An excellent opportunity has arisen within CEU’s Communications team for a Social Media Coordinator. The post holder will play a key role in our team, working alongside colleagues within the wider External Relations Division, including also the Student Recruitment, Development and Alumni offices.

This role will be based at the University’s Vienna Campus. Home working is permitted.

Duties and responsibilities:

  • Managing student recruitment content across CEU social media accounts (e.g. Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, Student Recruitment Facebook account, incoming students Facebook groups, LinkedIn, YouTube), in close coordination with the Social Media Officer and the Director of Student Recruitment to ensure alignment on content and strategy
  • Planning and developing student recruitment-focused annual social media strategy and video projects based on CEU’s recruitment strategy (priorities, challenges, and opportunities) and STRO’s annual recruitment calendar, as well as reactively responding to opportunities that arise throughout the recruitment cycle (new scholarships, deadlines, events, new programs, etc.)
  • Developing a compelling social media experience to engage prospective students, and respond to prospect inquiries on social media platforms
  • Producing visual content in keeping with CEU’s graphic design and style guidelines: consistent and attractive branding elements, banners and posters, stories and reels, email headers, GIFs, etc.
  • Developing engaging, human-focused and story-centered content to promote CEU’s undergraduate and graduate programs, faculty and student profiles, career outcomes, alumni success stories; developing recruitment campaigns for various programs/recruitment events/deadlines
  • Training and collaborating with student recruitment interns on video projects, podcasts, student blog articles, student testimonials, Instagram live streams and weekly takeovers, producing tips and guidelines for prospective students
  • In close coordination with the Social Media Officer and Director of Student Recruitment, managing and overseeing the production cycle of recruitment video projects and shoots: creative planning, scripting videos; casting and training students, faculty and staff; organizing shoots; editing and actively participating in the post-production of videos
  • Running paid targeted social media campaigns: producing campaign creatives (photos, videos, graphic design, copywriting), setting up campaigns based on recruitment and application reports (e.g. feeder countries and unis, academic interests, etc.), coordinating with the Director of Student Recruitment and STRO’s departmental liaisons on target profiles, monitoring and adjusting ads based on their performance, producing final campaign reports
  • Managing social media promotion of recruitment events: produce creative and posts (photos, videos, graphic design, copywriting) for annual CEU Open House and Open Week events, recruitment webinars with academic departments and other student support units, virtual meetups for incoming students, running campaigns
  • Writing, editing, and proofreading copy for online and printed recruitment materials (brochures and other publications, websites, landing pages, marketing emails for prospects and applicants, etc.)
  • Managing incoming student Facebook groups (in close cooperation with Student Recruitment, Admissions, Financial Aid, Dean of Students’ Office): monitor membership of grad and undergrad incoming groups, create and post useful content for new students related to onboarding/enrollment/student life/visa, etc., monitor and answer daily inquiries of incoming students, share relevant event invites, engage student recruitment interns to support the incoming groups
  • Assisting departmental recruitment activities on social media:
  • Creating a social media toolkit for departments which provides:
  • Customizable campaign content and images
  • A calendar for deploying the campaign
  • Support for digital multimedia content creation
  • An online “how-to” guide to share best practice
  • Supporting the Social Media Officer in developing and deploying social media trainings for the CEU community
  • Supporting Student Recruitment marketing activities and external partnership efforts by creating social media content for their platforms


  • English native speaker;
  • Excellent copywriting skills at native English level;
  • A good first degree in a relevant subject;
  • Experience in a big organization, working across different levels of hierarchy;
  • 3+ years’ experience of delivering high quality social communications and engagement across a range of channels;
  • SEO proficiency;
  • Expert knowledge and practical experience of social media analytics and tools such as Hootsuite; GoogleTrends; Google, Facebook, Instagram and Twitter Analytics; and Facebook Insights;
  • Experience executing short-term and long-running social media campaigns;
  • Basic social media marketing;
  • Design skills (Photoshop, Indesign and/or Illustrator);
  • Ability to work collaboratively or stand-alone;
  • Experience of creating engaging rich media content
  • Video editing skills.


  • German language proficiency;
  • Experience of working in higher education, NGOs or government.

We offer a competitive salary starting from a gross of 40,000 EUR/year. A higher salary is possible if warranted by the candidate’s working experience. The initial contract is for one year with the possibility of renewal.
