The Communications Office at Central European University (CEU) invites applications for a full-time Social Media Manager position. The initial contract is for one year with the possibility of renewal.

The successful candidate will play an important role at the heart of how CEU communicates with its internal community of students, employees as well as externally, with alumni, potential students, media, influencers and the general public.

Duties and responsibilities:

On a day-to-day basis the post holder will:

  • Manage CEU's central social media channels by creating and scheduling exciting and eye-catching content for Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, and Instagram that maintains our position as one world's leading social sciences universities in the world
  • Working with Content Team, devise and deploy creative campaigns to promote CEU values and mission internally and externally
  • Working with Recruitment team, create and evaluate recruitment campaigns
  • Manage incoming messages and mentions, and respond where appropriate with guidance from colleagues in the Communications division
  • Continuously develop and execute CEU's social media strategy, working with colleagues in Academic and Administrative Units to ensure best practice is being followed
  • Train other CEU colleagues in social media
  • Advise other units on social media strategy
  • Ensure that employees tasked with social media activities as part of their role in University administrative and academic units other than Comms are working together effectively to support delivery of common messages.


  • A good first degree in a relevant subject.


  • Excellent, native-level English
  • Expert knowledge and practical experience of daily management of an international organization's social media channels
  • Expert knowledge and practical experience of social media analytics and tools such as Hootsuite; GoogleTrends; Google, Facebook, Instagram and Twitter Analytics; and Facebook Insights
  • Experience executing short-term and long-running social media campaigns
  • Basic social media marketing
  • Design skills e.g. Photoshop, InDesign and/or Illustrator
  • 3+ years' experience of delivering high quality social communications and engagement across a range of channels
  • SEO proficiency
  • Ability to work collaboratively or stand-alone
  • Experience of creating engaging rich media content.


  • fluent German and/or Hungarian
  • Experience of working in higher education, NGOs or government
  • An understanding of international HE issues.
