An excellent opportunity has arisen within CEU’s Communications team for a Social Media Officer. The post holder will play a key role in our team, working alongside colleagues within the wider External Relations Division, including also the Student Recruitment, Development and Alumni offices.

With a track-record of creating engaging digital content, first class copywriting skills as well as demonstrable experience in video editing and creative design, the successful candidate will play an important role in connecting the University with its key stakeholders including potential students, media, partners and the general public.

This role will be based at the University’s Vienna Campus. Home working is permitted.

Duties and responsibilities:

On a day-to-day basis the post holder will:

  • Manage CEU’s central social media channels by creating and scheduling engaging and creative social media content for Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, and Instagram that positions and maintains CEU as one world’s leading social sciences universities;
  • Work with colleagues to devise and deploy creative campaigns to promote CEU values and mission internally and externally
  • Support the Student Recruitment team to create and evaluate successful marketing campaigns;
  • Monitor incoming messages and mentions; respond where appropriate with guidance from colleagues in the Communications division;
  • Continuously develop and execute CEU’s social media strategy, working with colleagues in academic and administrative units to ensure best practice is followed;
  • Provide in-house social media training for department coordinators;
  • Advise academic and administrative units on social media strategy;
  • Ensure that employees tasked with social media activities as part of their role in administrative and academic units other than Comms work together effectively to support delivery of common messages.



  • Excellent copywriting skills at native English level;
  • A good first degree in a relevant subject;
  • 3+ years’ experience of delivering high quality social communications and engagement across a range of channels;
  • SEO proficiency;
  • Expert knowledge and practical experience of social media analytics and tools such as Hootsuite; GoogleTrends; Google, Facebook, Instagram and Twitter Analytics; and Facebook Insights;
  • Experience executing short-term and long-running social media campaigns;
  • Basic social media marketing;
  • Design skills (Photoshop, Indesign and/or Illustrator);
  • Ability to work collaboratively or stand-alone;
  • Experience of creating engaging rich media content.


  • German language proficiency;
  • Experience of working in higher education, NGOs or government.

We offer a competitive salary starting from gross 47,000 EUR/year. A higher salary is possible if warranted by the candidate’s working experience.
