The Budget and Finance Office at Central European University (CEU), Vienna invites applications for a full-time Tax and Accounting Specialist position.

Central European University (CEU) is a research-intensive university specializing in the social sciences, humanities, law, public policy and management. It is accredited in the United States, Austria and Hungary with entities in these countries. CEU offers bachelor's, master's and doctoral programs delivered in English (https://www.ceu.edu/) and has approximately 800 employees and altogether 1000 contractors (such as visiting faculty).

Duties and responsibilities:
As a member of a team, the successful candidate will develop taxation strategies, help in the day-to-day operational taxation matters and contribute to high-level accounting decisions.

Main tasks:

  • Responsible for CEU’s Austrian corporate taxation matters (excluding payroll-related taxes)
  • Main contact person with CEU’s external tax advisors
  • Contact point for the CEU community in case of tax-related questions, provide solutions on taxation matters
  • Involvement in operational tax matters (VAT statements, reports to banks on beneficial owner…etc.)
  • Representing CEU and providing information to Finanzamt and other Austrian authorities
  • Preparation for and participation in calendar and academic year audit work
  • Advising and participating in preparing financial statements
  • Coordinate with finance team to complete assigned taxation and accounting tasks

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree (minimum) in Finance or Accounting
  • At least 5 years of working experience (mainly taxation) in a similar position in academia, or non-profit sector or at an international company
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel)
  • Accountability, ability to meet deadlines and set priorities
  • Strong work ethic is a must
  • Discretion when dealing with sensitive/confidential information
  • Ability to assess risks and rewards in taxation matters
  • Multicultural orientation and open-mindedness
  • Good organizational and interpersonal skills
  • Flexibility and orientation for solutions
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks and to prioritize

Advantage:

  • Chartered / certified accountant
  • Certified Tax advisor
  • ACCA qualification
  • Experience in non-profit accounting and familiarity with an integrated accounting system (preferably SAP Systems) is an advantage
  • Previous higher education sector experience

Compensation
The annual gross salary starts at 53,000 EUR. The actual final salary might be higher depending on the seniority and level of expertise of the selected candidate.
