Thirty years after the fall of the Berlin Wall, several of the key players gathered at CEU’s Vienna campus to discuss the events of 1989. Former U.S. Secretary of State Madeleine Albright, former Foreign Minister and Vice Chancellor of Germany Joshka Fischer joined former Minister of Foreign Affairs of Bulgaria Daniel Mitov to debate how 1989 can help us avoid new walls today.

The paper argues that complacency are equally unwarranted; it’s core message is ‘keep calm and carry on’.
