CEU Business School Anniversary Event Focuses on Integrity

March 25, 2014

CEU Business School hosted “Managing Integrity: the Bad and the Good,” a seminar that brought together experts in transparency, corruption, regulatory practices, and integrity education on March 13. CEU's Center for Integrity in Business and Government, directed by Professor Peter Hardi, is leading the way in integrity education in Central and Eastern Europe.

With a $3 million grant from Siemens AG (within the framework of its Integrity Initiative), Hardi and his colleagues have built an innovative new curriculum that confronts students with real-life scenarios as they are earning their degrees. Assistant Professor Noemi Alexa detailed the curriculum, noting that educators use interactive teaching, case studies, and board simulation to explore relevant topics like corruption trends, dawn-raid investigations, competition law, investing in weak government zones, and integrity management in business transactions.

CEU President and Rector John Shattuck gave opening remarks, followed by CEU Business School Dean Mel Horwitch, who outlined the Center's Integrity Education Project. Gregor Medinger, a member of the CEU Business School Advisory Board, gave the keynote speech, chronicling the types of bribery and corruption he had encountered throughout his long career in the investment field. The first panel discussion addressed what integrity research offered to business while the second panel addressed how business could use the research.

The event was part of the celebration of the Business School's 25th anniversary. For the full story, visit: http://www.ceu.hu/article/2014-03-17/does-combatting-corruption-generate....
