As in previous years, CEU participated in Hungary’s Cultural Heritage Days, held this year on Sept. 21-22 with the theme “Houses of Water.” More than 100 people visited CEU during the two-day event.
Because 2013 is the 240th birthday of Mihaly Pollack, the architect who designed the Festetics Palace at Nador utca 9 (CEU’s Monument Building), university guides emphasized the importance of Pollack’s works in Budapest and elsewhere. Tours of the Monument Building were conducted on both days, with Professor Jozsef Laszlovszky of CEU’s Medieval Studies Department leading two groups on Saturday. The tours included a slideshow of photos of Pollack’s works. A poster exhibit featuring the history of the Festetics Palace was on display in the Octagon throughout. Sunday’s afternoon tour ended in the lobby of Nador utca 13 with a piano concert by Mariann Marczi, who performed water-themed selections by Claude Debussy and Zoltan Kodaly.
