August 13, 2013

The Center for Higher Education Policy at CEU’s School of Public Policy hosted a delegation from the University of Pennsylvania for two weeks of seminars and workshops in Budapest and Pecs on international education policy. From July 5 to July 17, 21 doctoral students along with faculty members from the Executive Doctorate in Higher Education program at the Graduate School of Education, University of Pennsylvania, were in Budapest to learn about the Hungarian higher education system and to meet with its leaders as part of their International Context Education class.

The visit gave students a chance to examine the challenges and opportunities that come with developing higher education in Central and Eastern Europe. Among the Hungarian education leaders with whom the students met was Istvan Klinghammer, the under-secretary responsible for higher education at the Hungarian Ministry for Human Resources. Students also attended a lecture on higher education politics and finance delivered by European Member of Parliament and CEU Professor Lajos Bokros, and participated in other seminars and workshops.

The visit concluded with a conference at CEU where the students were given an opportunity to present the findings of the research conducted during their time in Hungary.
