In 2005, CEU launched an innovative research center for the study of media, journalism and communication. As the team has grown and areas of expertise have expanded over the past decade, the Center has taken on a new name that more closely reflects the interests and expertise of the faculty and staff. It is relaunching as the Center for Data, Media and Society (CMDS). The CMDS research program on journalism, telecommunications policy, and communication trends will continue, while the new name represents additional expertise in technology policy, drones, big data, and the internet of things.
As part of the relaunch the CMDS website will now be http://cmds.ceu.hu. It is still packed with the reports and data sets developed for original research on media law and policy in Hungary and the region. It also identifies the projects in progress, including the Ranking Digital Rights project, and EU-funded projects on strengthening journalism and online political extremism.
The"Media and Change" series of meetings, lectures and videos will also continue.
