Partnership Agreement between CEU and the Hungarian Institute of International Affairs

Budapest, 28 March, 2012—Today, Central European University (CEU) and the Hungarian Institute of International Affairs (HIIA) signed a memorandum of understanding outlining a partnership to coordinate research and training activities. CEU President and Rector John Shattuck and Director of HIIA Botond Zakonyi stressed the mutual benefits of this collaboration that will lead to new intellectual achievements using the respective networks of the two institutions. Experts from CEU and HIIA will be invited to participate in events and projects at both institutions and encouraged to build domestic and international research networks. Peter Balazs, director of CEU’s Center for European Enlargement Studies and former Foreign Minister of Hungary, together with Attila Marjan, European research director of HIIA, suggested potential research topics for study including the future of European integration and enlargement, a probable multi-speed Europe, and Hungarian and European Balkans strategies. The two institutions also intend to cooperate on specialized EU training of diplomats and civil servants from Hungary and neighboring EU candidate countries.
