CEU’s Human RightS Initiative (HRSI) is accepting applicants for a one-day intensive workshop at CEU on the theme of media and human rights on Saturday, June 7 that aims to provide participating students with a working knowledge of videographic methods that can be used in documenting and promoting human rights.
Shoot, Edit, Upload: Filmmaking techniques for human rights campaigners and activism
The aim of the session is to get basic video-making and editing skills to enable participants to use videos as a tool for human rights activism. The workshop will consist of a theoretical module in CEU's Media Lab (how to use a flip-cam, how to edit videos, etc.) and a practical module – going to the field and making short videos individually or in groups. Equipment will be provided but participants are strongly encouraged to bring their own digital camera/phone, memory cards, camera data cable or card reader, and charges.
Trainer:
Masa Drndic holds an MA in cinematography studies and has worked for the last eight years as a freelancer (director, cinematographer and editor) for numerous cultural organizations, institutions, video productions, festivals as well as NGOs producing documentaries, short films and videos. In her own works Masa focuses on relationship between locations and its inhabitants, exploring individual as well as collective expressions of identity, belonging, memories, dreams and desires.
At the end of the workshop, participants can expect to be able to:

• Develop the vocabulary needed to discuss moving and still images.
• Produce images that convey information and emotion concerning a certain social issue / phenomenon.
