Histories of Gift-giving: from Religious Offering to Bribing

Duration:
August, 2016 to July, 2018

The project aims to develop comparative case studies from different societies in three macro regional domains: Southern Europe, Eastern Europe and East Asia. Research will be conducted in a multidisciplinary perspective by bringing together experts of ritual research, history, religion studies, folklore and anthropology from CEU, Eötvös Loránd University and other international academic centers. We envision a close participation between established scholars and prominent students at PhD level who are engaging with these topics and are able to contribute with innovative and fresh perspectives from all around Europe, with particular emphasis on the regions studied. Moreover, the project aims to establish a mechanism in which scholarly experts of the topics will teach and deliver public lectures at CEU and at ELTE, as well as a series of webinars to be streamed in contact with other international academic institutions.
