Budapest, 29 November 2011—Cutting emissions by 2020 to a level that could keep 21st century global temperature rise under 2 degrees C is technologically and economically feasible, says a comprehensive new study released in London and Nairobi on 23 November by the UN Environment Program (UNEP).

Budapest, Oct. 20, 2011—On Oct. 26, Prince Hassan of Jordan will share his views on the Arab Spring at a public lecture at Central European University. His Royal Highness Prince El Hassan bin Talal of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan will speak within the framework of the university’s Rector’s Lecture Series Special Event. CEU President and Rector John Shattuck will give introductory remarks; Nadia Al-Bagdadi, Head, Department of History, CEU, will act as the moderator of the event.

Budapest, 15 September 2011—CEU begins its twenty-first academic year with an intake of 622 new students from nearly 80 countries who join the doctoral, second-year Master’s, and undergraduate students already at the university. With this new cadre, CEU enrolls more than 1,600 students from nearly a hundred countries. The CEU community also includes some 10,000 alumni worldwide.

Budapest, 9 June 2011—In the fall of 1991, students from Central and Eastern Europe began their studies in a handful of degree and certificate programs being offered in Prague by Central European University. That following spring, 100 students celebrated the completion of their CEU studies in Economics, History, and Sociology at the University's first commencement ceremony. This year, almost 600 students from 76 countries will receive their degrees¾Master’s or Doctoral—at this year’s graduation ceremony, the University’s 20th.

Budapest, 9 June 2011—Central European University (CEU) has named Wolfgang H. Reinicke Dean of the new CEU School of Public Policy and International Affairs in Budapest, effective September 1, 2011. Reinicke is currently co-founder and Director of the Global Public Policy Institute in Berlin, Nonresident Senior Fellow at The Brookings Institution in Washington, D.C., and Managing Director of Galaxar S.A. in Geneva.

Budapest, 9 June 2011—Economists from Central European University (CEU) and the Hungarian Academy of Sciences (MTA) have shown that the achievement gap between Roma and non-Roma students is substantial both in both reading skills and mathematic reasoning, however, these differences are explained by social disadvantages; ethnicity plays no additional role.
