Budapest, July 3, 2019—CEU expresses solidarity with the Hungarian Academy of Sciences following the adoption by the Fidesz parliamentary majority of a law stripping this prestigious Hungarian institution of its research institutes. The adoption of the law, following months of political pressure, threats and blackmail proffered by the Government, illustrates once again the disdain of Mr Viktor Orban’s regime for the value of science, academic freedom and, at the same time, blundering disregard for the rule of law.

July 1, 2019—Central European University has received formal notification from the Middle States Commission on Higher Education that the University successfully retained its accreditation status as a US degree granting institution. The decision follows more than two years of self-study and an external review.

Budapest, June 26, 2019 — Central European University (CEU) joins partners Bocconi University (Italy), the European University Institute (European Intergovernmental Organization), the Hertie School of Governance (Germany), the National University of Political Studies and Public Administration (Romania), Sciences Po (France, lead institution for the project) and the Stockholm School of Economics (Sweden), as CIVICA, the European University of Social Sciences.

Budapest, June 25, 2019 – 599 students received their diplomas at Central European University’s (CEU) Graduation Ceremony, held at the Palace of Arts in Budapest on June 24, 2019. The university conferred 60 doctoral degrees, 486 master’s degrees and 13 non-degree certificates on its 28th graduating class. All now join CEU's alumni body, numbering 16,000, in 136 countries.
