Central European University (CEU) is offering a number of full scholarship packages for Syrian citizens at the master's and doctoral level for Academic Year 2016/2017. Applications are welcome for all academic areas for the full length of the program. Scholarships are awarded based on academic merit.

Budapest, Sept. 14, 2015 – CEU President and Rector John Shattuck announced today he will step down at the end of this coming academic year, following CEU’s 25th anniversary. Shattuck will have served seven years in office by August 2016, the term he agreed to in 2013 when the university asked him to extend beyond his original four-year contract.

Budapest, July 8, 2015 – Central European University's new campus design has been granted “Very Good” status by BREEAM officials, making it the second higher education institution in continental Europe and the first in Central and Eastern Europe to receive this distinction. BREEAM principles – the world's leading design and assessment method for sustainable buildings – were used in the design in order to support CEU’s commitment to sustainability. Dr. Shakuntala Banaji, lecturer and programme director of the Master's in Media, Communication and Development in the Department of Media and Communications at the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE), has been selected as recipient of the fourth annual European Award for Excellence in Teaching in the Social Sciences and Humanities. The award, initiated by CEU Provost and Pro-Rector Liviu Matei and overseen by the University's Center for Teaching and Learning (CTL) aims to promote excellence in teaching across the European Higher Education Area (EHEA).

The International Renaissance Foundation (IRF) has been named the winner of the 2015 CEU Open Society Prize in recognition of its contribution to efforts toward the creation of an open society in Ukraine. Created in 1994, the award was first given to Sir Karl Popper, the eminent philosopher and distinguished proponent of the concept of open society. In subsequent years the award was given to Vaclav Havel, Arpad Goncz, Ricardo Lagos, Carla Del Ponte, Kofi Annan, Richard C. Holbrooke and Kristalina Georgieva, among others.

Budapest, May 7, 2015 – An international team of higher education experts led by CEU Provost and Pro-Rector Liviu Matei had the honor of meeting Nobel Prize recipient and leader of the National League for Democracy in Burma, Aung San Suu Kyi, and several members of Parliament on April 30 and May 1 in Yangon. Dr. Suu Kyi is chair of the Parliamentary Committee on Education Reform. The meeting was coordinated and also attended by representatives of the International Higher Education Support Program (HESP) of the Open Society Foundations.

Budapest, March 17, 2015 – The European Economic Association (EEA) and the Yrjo Jahnsson Foundation named CEU Professor Botond Koszegi the winner of the 2015 Yrjo Jahnsson Award for his contribution to the theoretical foundations of behavioral economics, and its application to public finance and contract theory. The award is accompanied by a €20,000 prize from the Yrjo Jahnsson Foundation.

Budapest, Feb. 2, 2015 – In line with CEU's strategic sustainability goals, the U.S. Department of State's Regional Environmental, Science & Technology, and Health (ESTH) Hub for Central and Eastern Europe has partnered with the University to provide a $30,000 grant to support a Sustainable University Network (SUN) of student environmental groups in Hungary.

Budapest, January 15, 2015 – The Sigrid Rausing Trust has awarded CEU a €113,000 (£90,000) grant to support the CEU Roma Access Programs (RAP). Since 2006, the Trust has partnered with RAP on a variety of initiatives, ranging from student scholarships to internship support.

Budapest, Dec. 8, 2014 – Ford Foundation has awarded Central European University (CEU) a $350,000 grant to further expand the University's work on promoting access, rights, and justice for Europe's most marginalized community, the Roma. CEU's Roma programs include the CEU Roma Access Programs (RAP), initiated with Ford Foundation funding in 2004, and a new University-wide initiative for Roma advancement and inclusion.
