Budapest, 28 March, 2012—Today, Central European University (CEU) and the Hungarian Institute of International Affairs (HIIA) signed a memorandum of understanding outlining a partnership to coordinate research and training activities. CEU President and Rector John Shattuck and Director of HIIA Botond Zakonyi stressed the mutual benefits of this collaboration that will lead to new intellectual achievements using the respective networks of the two institutions.

Budapest, May 7, 2011 – Central European University President and Rector John Shattuck will participate in the launch of the U.S. branch of the Vaclav Havel Library in New York on May 8, 2012. Shattuck, former U.S. ambassador to the Czech Republic and former U.S. assistant secretary of state for democracy, human rights and labor, will chair a panel titled “Ensuring Vaclav Havel’s Legacy: The Role of the Havel Library.”

Budapest, May 15, 2012 – Central European University (CEU) will host the 8th European Feminist Research Conference on May 17 – 20 on the University campus and at neighboring Golyavar Conference Center at Eotvos Lorand University. Over 500 scholars and researchers will gather for what will be the largest feminist conference held in Budapest in more than sixty years.

Budapest, Oct. 20, 2011—On Oct. 26, Prince Hassan of Jordan will share his views on the Arab Spring at a public lecture at Central European University. His Royal Highness Prince El Hassan bin Talal of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan will speak within the framework of the university’s Rector’s Lecture Series Special Event. CEU President and Rector John Shattuck will give introductory remarks; Nadia Al-Bagdadi, Head, Department of History, CEU, will act as the moderator of the event.

Budapest, 15 September 2011—CEU begins its twenty-first academic year with an intake of 622 new students from nearly 80 countries who join the doctoral, second-year Master’s, and undergraduate students already at the university. With this new cadre, CEU enrolls more than 1,600 students from nearly a hundred countries. The CEU community also includes some 10,000 alumni worldwide.
