Budapest, April 20 – From the beginning of this episode, CEU has called on the Hungarian government to sit down and begin confidential negotiations for a mutually acceptable solution to enable it to continue operations in Hungary. Instead, CEU has been subjected to a barrage of incoherent statements and false allegations. It is time for the government to stop playing these games, figure out its negotiating positions, and begin talks with the university.

Budapest, April 12, 2017 -- Central European University (CEU) welcomes the U.S. government’s expression of full support for CEU’s fight for academic freedom and its right to remain in Budapest, most recently in remarks by State Department spokesperson Mark C. Toner. Secondly, and just as significantly, the European Commission has announced its decision to swiftly complete a thorough legal assessment of Hungary’s Higher Education law and decide on further steps in the next infringement cycle. This is a remarkable step by the European Commission.

Budapest, April 6 -- Central European University (CEU) is determined to stay in Budapest, its home for more than two decades, Chairman of the Board of Trustees Leon Botstein said. Any reports about other plans are false. CEU also reiterates that it intends to resort to all legal remedies available in order to remain in Budapest, where it has operated lawfully for 25 years.

Budapest, April 5, 2017 – The Ministry of Human Capacities statement of April 4 concerning Central European University (CEU) and Közép-európai Egyetem contains a number of inaccuracies and errors. The fact that our university is not referred to by its official name but, alluding to the founder, is referred to as “Soros University,” shows the statement is a piece of political propaganda.

Budapest, April 4, 2017 – Central European University (CEU) condemns the Hungarian Parliament’s passage of amendments to the Hungarian national law on higher education today. The new law puts at risk the academic freedom not only of CEU but of other Hungarian research and academic institutions.

Budapest, March 31 – The notification received from Hungary’s Educational Authority that CEU New York meets conditions for operations in Hungary under the current National Higher Education Act, described in a press release earlier today, refers to CEU’s submission of 17 programs for examination by the Educational Authority.

Budapest, March 31 -- While CEU has been heartened by the outpouring of support for our university in Hungary and abroad, the defense of our academic freedom is not a partisan political issue. Academic freedom in Hungary and should be the concern of all Hungarian citizens.

Budapest, March 31, 2017 – Central European University (CEU) utterly rejects the Prime Minister of Hungary's false allegations that CEU is “cheating.” Contrary to the Prime Minister's statement, there is no current Hungarian law that requires universities to have operations in their home countries in order to award degrees in Hungary. CEU is accredited to award Hungarian and U.S. degrees.
